Mechanics

We’ll be using a few (in many cases very common) meta techniques to make it easier for you to portray things that are difficult to actually act out, as well as to calibrate your play without having to break the atmosphere of being ingame too much. These will be workshopped on location but you can already read about them in the Design Document!

Characters

You will be creating your own characters for this event. After the initial sign up period, you will get to choose which tribe you want to join, allowing you to coordinate with people you want to play together with. You will be able to talk about this beforehand on the Discord participant platform as well.

Who you play and who you have relations with will be up to you! In the Design Document, we list some example functions within the tribes below but you can really do anything that you would have fun with. There will also be workshops on location to let you all talk to each other in person but we highly recommend having a call or two before the event to get to know each other and plan a bit for a vibe and some shared memories etc.
Again, this event is a lot about community. The better you build your little tribe internal networks, the better we believe your game will be.

We will be sending out a google form for you to fill out with some keywords about your characters as well so we can make a short who is who. It would be great if you could contribute a selfie to that, it doesn’t have to be in costume - just your face is enough.

We will be there to help you come up with characters if you need help - simply shoot us an email. :) If we have time, we might also facilitate a call for people to spitball ideas.

Costumes

In the Design Document, we give you simple examples for the kind of aesthetic we are gunning for. Iron age central European fashion was still very tied to Roman and Greek fashion but different in certain aspects, especially due to climate and culture. Most of it can therefore be done with large pieces of fabric and very little sewing! The goal here is something that looks good enough, not something that is 100% accurate.

If you are looking this up online, search for iron age fashion (but steer away from the vikings please) or iron age celts, La Tène or Hallstatt fashion.

Expectations

This larp is for you if:

  • you enjoy co-creative structures and are comfortable improvising play

  • you want a simplistic light-hearted experience of community, connection and superstition but with a focus on tradition and conservation

  • you like to share or listen to stories & join in dance and music (there will be a pornopolka) (if you do not know pornopolka, just trust and learn)

  • you like to larp in nature and are comfortable in it (mosquitoes included)

  • you are interested in slow play with personal drama and joy within a Nordic larp mentality

  • you enjoy an attempt at a historical setting without the expectation to be entirely accurate to make room for playability and beautiful stories

  • you are okay with (voluntary) responsible alcohol consumption during play time

  • you can also expect to be photographed during this event (if you don’t want that, we will not guarantee it but you can approach our photographer about it on location)

What we expect from you:

  • to contribute to the atmosphere, play and setting with your own ideas

  • to know your boundaries and take initiative for your own fun

  • to help with the food preparations which will happen in the middle of the play area

  • to write and connect your own character within our parameters

  • to be responsive to our requests before the game and, if possible, to join our participant platform on Discord to connect, discuss and plan at least a little

What this larp is not:

  • a larp about combat, deep rooted feuds, the world ending or deep tragedy

  • a larp where you can order npcs or plot but you can always ask for help

  • a larp with an emotional safety person available

  • a larp with a rigid rule system

  • an exact replication of authentic iron age culture or believes

  • a larp about modernised “Celtic” festivities or customs

  • a larp about the Roman Empire

  • a larp with major overarching plot other than the setting for framework

  • a larp that includes play on gender roles, sexual abuse and child death.
